Trombosis One day a renowned orchestra was scheduled to rehearse for an up-coming concert. Unfortunately the regular conductor fell ill and they were stuck for a last minute replacement for that weekend. The orchestra manager approached the musicians at the rehearsal just prior to that up-coming date and asked if anyone had any experience in conducting. They were desperate for a solution and thought perhaps a member of the orchestra might be the way to go. It appears that one of the trombone players had some background in this area and said he would be pleased to help out. Well, the orchestra on the rehearsal did the run-throughs with the bone section minus this one player. Everything went smoothly. The concert went better than expected and the musicians and everyone was pleased with the out-come. It was one of the orchestra's better performances. The next time they assembled to rehearse the substitute conductor/ bone player sat in his regular chair. One of the other players in his section confronted him with, "Boy, you really missed a great concert this past weekend. It's too bad you weren't here. We had a substitute conductor and he was sensational." This brings to mind what Toscanni said about that section, "I never look at the trombones. It only encourages them." Hmm?
